Heat gained and lost

A lake is like a battery. Sunlight charges the top ten feet through the day, and at night most of that comes back out — carried off by evaporation, and radiated to the sky. Dry, clear, windy nights lose the most. A day shows a gain when the sun put in more than the night took out.

This is that ledger — how much the whole column gained or lost, day by day.
